CASE STUDY: MAKING OF KID VADAR

THE BRIEF

Stretching their imaginations and entering a world of limitless possibilities Parker + Biley created this Kid Vader scene blurring the boundaries between photography & CGI. People commonly say that they can always tell when CGI has been used. Look closely at the Kid Vader image – are you sure what is photographic & and what is CGI?

THE PROCESS

The only part of this image that was  photographed is  Kid Vadars body.  Parker and Biley dressed the talent in a basic costume which was then added to using CGI to create the helmet, boots, cape and utility belt. This was a much more cost effective way of getting the right look and feel of the main character. The rest of the room and props are all created in CGI and then using Parker and Biley’s knowledge of conventional lighting techniques they were able to give the room a futuristic modern feel.
